June

The month of June might be the start of the summer slot of Ordinary Time in the Liturgical Calendar of the Church Year, but it is not an ordinary month. June is filled with an abundance of good and holy things.

June starts out with the celebration of Corpus Christi, also known as the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. This is the feast that honors Jesus Christ, really, really, truly and substantially under the appearance of bread and wine. It continues with the feasts of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (June 7th) and the Immaculate Heart of Mary (June 8th). At the end of the month we celebrate the Birth of John the Baptist (June 24), who is the only figure other than Mary and Jesus whose birth is celebrated by the Church. And, the month concludes with the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul (June 29), honoring their martyrdom in Rome.

Happy June to you!
