The first words that Jesus speaks in the Gospel of John come thirty-eight verses into the first chapter. After John points out Jesus as the Lamb of God, disciples of John begin to follow Jesus. When Jesus notices that two disciples of John are following him as he walks on, he turns to them and asks, “What are you looking for?”
This question means a lot more than just, Can I help you find something? Have you lost something? Jesus is really asking, What are you looking for in life? What is your deepest desire? What are you seeking in your life?
Jesus asks us the same question. What are you looking for? What are you searching for, to satisfy your soul’s deep longing?
Are you looking for healing and wholeness? Are you looking for forgiveness and reconciliation? Are you looking for hope and courage? Are you looking for justice and change? Are you looking for light and clarity? Are you looking for life and life abundant?
Take some time to search yourself and answer Jesus’ question. What are you looking for?
