Sister Jeanne Ann – What is this in the Light of Eternity?

Gethsemane Cemetery in the Fall

As I was walking through the cemetery in the back of the Monastery, and enjoying the exquisite beauty of fall, I thought of a favorite quote of +Bishop Paul Anderson, our former bishop. If something unforeseen, painful, or trying came up, he would often say, “What is this in the Light of Eternity?” This would always put the situation into perspective.

I often remember that quote before some of the challenges or losses in my life. This doesn’t mean I don’t grieve, get angry or depressed – which I believe is all normal, but I am able to let go of the situation faster and deal with it better. Oh what wisdom and insight from those who have journeyed before us. “What is this in the Light of Eternity?”
