Cloudy Days

When there are cloudy days, we do not think that the sun has abandoned us. We know that the sun is still hanging in the sky, shining brightly behind the clouds. So then, why when we have troubles, do we think that God has abandoned us? We should know that God is there; strong and faithful, unchanged, and present.

The Bible consistently promises that God is always with us and supportive during times of trouble.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1

“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” – Deuteronomy 31:8

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” – Isaiah 43:2:

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33:

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God.” – Romans 8:38-39

While clouds may obscure the sun, God’s ways are not subjected to such limitations. So, have no fear of those cloudy days.

“We think that God has turned his face away from us when we find ourselves suffering,
so that shadows overwhelm our feelings and stop our eyes from seeing the brilliance of the truth.” – Saint Ambrose

“Listen carefully, my child, to your master's precepts, and incline the ear of your heart. Receive willingly and carry out effectively your loving father's advice, that by the labor of obedience you may return to Him from whom you had departed by the sloth of disobedience.”
–St. Benedict of Nursia, The Rule of Saint Benedict
