Mystery Trip Destination

On Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, eight high school seniors and two adults arrived in Duluth from St. Bede’s Academy in Peru, Illinois. The surprise event was planned by Fr. Ron Margherio, OSB, campus minister. Each year a few students have an opportunity to broaden their horizons by saying yes to a mystery trip. The students have no idea where they are going or what they will be experiencing. Their parents did receive a letter, not to be shared with their children, about their itinerary. This year they visited monasteries in the Midwest.

On Friday and Saturday they stayed overnight at the McCabe Retreat Center and were hosted by Sister Dorene King, Director. They joined the Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery for Evening Prayer and dinner. During the day they had various adventures along the north shore of Lake Superior. They would be having more surprise destinations through Monday evening on their way back home.

The following are some combined comments from the eight students – four boys and four girls:

“Thanks for letting us stay in this amazing house – though a little creepy (Halloween is almost here!) It provided a great atmosphere and allowed us to bond with each other and to build more relationships with everyone, including the Sisters, through dinner and Liturgy of the Hours.”

They were grateful for our hospitality, kindnesses, joy, and sharing of stories. Fr. Ron said: “Life is a mystery. May God’s mystery continue to unfold for all of you.”

May God’s great Mystery of love, adventure, and faithfulness continue to unfold and to support this great group who blessed our Community in many ways!
