All Souls Day – Remembering

Remembering at Evening Prayer

   Lamps on the Altar

On the evening of All Souls Day, Nov. 2, 2012, the Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery remembered and honored the Sisters who died during this past year.  Photographs of those Sisters were displayed in the Gathering Place, and their lighted ceremonial lamps were brought into the Chapel at Evening Prayer and place on the altar.

Deceased Sisters in 2011-12
l-r: Sister Cabrini; Sister Charlene; Sister Jeanne Marie; Sister Verda Clare

This year there were four photos and four lamps.  The assembled Sisters remembered and gave thanks for the lives of Sister Cabrini Beauvais, Sister Charlene Schoen, and Sister Jeanne Marie Lortie, and Sister Verda Clare Eichner.   (To read a Sister’s vita click on her name.)

…As we progress in this way of life and in faith, we shall run on the path of God’s commandments, our hearts overflowing with the inexpressible delight of love.  Never swerving from his instructions, then, but faithfully observing his teaching in the monastery until death, we shall through patience share in the sufferings of Christ that we may deserve also to share in his kingdom.  Amen.
