Did you notice that as we celebrated Christmas we were not allowed to loiter at the stable for very long? In fact, the day after Christmas we commemorated the death of St. Stephen, the first martyr. Even the shepherds did not stay admiring the Newborn King very long. Scripture tells us that they “found the baby lying in the manger…they understood…made known the message…and went off glorifying and praising God.”
What about us? Do we find ourselves wanting to loiter in the stable? It seems that sometimes we get so sentimental about Christmas and the baby, that we just want to hang out in the stable. We forget that Baby Jesus grows up. And remember, we need Jesus to grow up.
We also need to grow up. We need to move on. We need to do something about Christmas in our daily lives. We need to show that it makes a difference. We need to realize that the message of Christmas isn’t ours to selfishly keep…it is to be shared!
So, there you have it. We need to move on and bear witness to Christmas by sharing the news that Jesus just didn’t stay a baby, but that He grew up to be our Savior and bring us the joy of everlasting life!
