The Feast of St. Scholastica at The College

So many doughnuts...

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Scholastica a day early, as this year Ash Wednesday falls on February 10.  Each year on this feast the Sisters bring some sweetness and joy to The College of St. Scholastica in the form of doughnuts. Today’s mix includes jelly-filled doughnuts which are called paczki in Polish neighborhoods, and are a traditional celebration of sugar and fat on Fat Tuesday before we head into the austerity of Lent.

May our double feast of St. Scholastica and Mardi Gras be filled with joy as we look forward to a lenten spring-cleaning of our souls.

“Listen carefully, my child, to your master's precepts, and incline the ear of your heart. Receive willingly and carry out effectively your loving father's advice, that by the labor of obedience you may return to Him from whom you had departed by the sloth of disobedience.”
–St. Benedict of Nursia, The Rule of Saint Benedict
