Sister Gretchen Gives Recital in Chapel

St. Scholastica Monastery presented an organ recital by Sister Gretchen Johnston in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel on Wednesday, March 16, 2011.   The recital was a part of a series of Lenten Mid-Day Organ Recitals sponsored by the Arrowhead Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

More than fifty people gathered to hear Sister Gretchen play a number of pieces including the “Praeludium” from Te Deum laudamus by Deitrich Buxtehude,  Maranatha by Robert LeBlanc, OSB, in which the assembly participated by singing the hymn “Jesus Come! For We Invite You” from the Benedictine Book of Song II,  and Wondrous Love,  by Southern Harmony, arranged by Sister Gretchen.  She played on the Chapel’s K. C. Marrin tracker action organ.Sister Gretchen is primarily a pianist and has given piano recitals for the Sisters, but she plays the organ for services in the Chapel.  Sister Gretchen is offering group and individual piano instruction for students of all ages and abilities.  She can be reached at 218-733-2294 or sgretchenosb@gmail.com.
