From August 8-11, 2013, nearly 80 Professed Benedictine Sisters aged 55 and under from the Federations of St. Benedict, St. Gertrude, and St. Scholastica, and the Congregation of Perpetual Adoration, joined together at Sacred Heart Monastery, Yankton, SD for “Wisdom Calls – Carpe Diem!”
This was the 2nd inter-Federational gathering of its kind.
The program for the 3 days of sharing, prayer, and input was planned by a committee of sisters from each Federation and Congregation, who had previously participated in the 2011 gathering.
Sister Stefanie MacDonald, St. Mary Monastery, Rock Island, IL was the representative from the Federation of St. Benedict.
Sister Edith Bogue, St. Scholastica Monastery, Duluth, MN sociologist and Professor at the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, MN gave a two-part presentation entitled: “Culture Shifts: The Shape of Monastic Life.”
Not only was her input thought-provoking, it was most enjoyable and engaging.
Her data took the group from the late 19th century . . .
