Creating Compassion

Women’s Retreat at McCabe Renewal Center, on March 24, 2012

McCabe "Creating Compassion" Group

How do you wrap your arms around the theme of compassion and create space to explore personal encounters with compassion?  In a spirit of anticipation and attentiveness, fourteen women gathered with Sister Jean Maher and Sister Dorene King to spend a day at McCabe Renewal Center focusing on “Creating Compassion.”

Throughout the day we prayed, sang, shared, and opened ourselves to ways to become more compassionate with ourselves and with others.  There were opportunities to recall being the recipient of compassion.  Participants were treated to a menu of possibilities to choose from, even the soothing feel of having their hands or feet washed, as a way to nurture compassion for themselves.

The day brought the blessings of tears, a deepened awareness of blessings received, and gratitude for this place of “peace and safety.”
