Amazing Grace

by Sister Lisa Maurer

“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound!” Just what is that amazing grace that sounds so sweet?

According to St. Paul, it is grace by which we are justified in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24). The Catechism of the Catholic Church says that “Grace is favor, the free and undeserved help that God gives us to respond to his call to become children of God, adoptive sons, partakers of the divine nature and eternal life. Grace is a participation in the life of God” (#1996-1997).

Let us never grow weary of praising God the Father for His amazing grace!

Father, by your grace, I can live as your child. In Baptism you freed me from the burden of original sin and restored me to right relationship with you. This was all your doing!

Father, by your grace, I have the forgiveness of sins. Not only have you forgiven my sins, but you have broken the power of sin and death. I can never repay you for such a gift!

Father, by your grace, I can enjoy your Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirt my mind is enlightened and my eyes have been opened. I could not do this on my own!

Father, by your grace, I look forward to heaven. Because of Jesus we are redeemed and the hope of life forever. Your goodness, God, knows no bounds!

“Listen carefully, my child, to your master's precepts, and incline the ear of your heart. Receive willingly and carry out effectively your loving father's advice, that by the labor of obedience you may return to Him from whom you had departed by the sloth of disobedience.”
