What Are You Doing Here?

A parent of one of our college softball players told me the story of how he reacted when someone unknown to him attended Easter Sunday Mass at his parish. He recounted that a young man, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, with a hat on his head, came into the church and walked straight up to the front pew and sat down. He went on to confess to me that he wanted to walk right up to that young man and ask, “What are you doing here?”

I recalled that story when I saw a pansy growing, totally out of place, on the edge of the sidewalk. I, wanted to ask, “What are you doing here?”

Maybe the answer that both the young man and the wayward pansy would give would be the same, “Giving glory to God.” And, isn’t that what we are all supposed to be doing?

“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever!”  – Romans 11:36
