The anniversary of the dedication of a chapel is an important remembrance and celebrated solemnly because the rite for dedication of a church (or a chapel) and an altar is rightly considered among the most solemn liturgical services. This chapel is the place where the monastic Community is gathered to celebrate the liturgies of the Eucharist and Morning and Evening Prayer. Thus it stands as a special kind of image of the Church itself, which is God’s temple built from living stones. You too are living stones, built as an edifice of spirit, into a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (I Peter 2:5) In the various prayers of the Eucharist, we ask that our worship always be sincere and that the Church be brought to its full stature as the body of Christ throughout the world, reaching its perfection at last in the heavenly city of Jerusalem.
