Heritage Day is celebrated each year on the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, disciple of the Lord. We see a significant part of her life pictured in the icon, Mary Magdalene Telling of the Resurrection to the Apostles ©, written by +Sr. Mary Charles McGough, O.S.B.
On this day we remember the dream and courage of Sister Benedicta Riepp and companions who arrived at St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania, in 1852 from Eichstatt, Germany. Through the initial efforts of these visionary women, many new Benedictine foundations were eventually made, including St. Scholastica Monastery of Duluth.
