Sister Devota LaVoie, OSB, celebrated her 101th birthday with Sisters on Benet Hall on Wednesday afternoon, July 27. Sisters from throughout the Community came to sing Happy Birthday and enjoy cupcakes and other snacks with their second oldest member (Sister Thea Sandusky is 102 or 103 or . . . well, who’s counting anymore?).Sister Devota tests the French of new Affiliate Paule Barbeau as Sister Mary Catherine Shambour, Vocations Director, looks on.A special moment came when Paule Barbeau, who recently “knocked on the door” to become an Affiliate with St. Scholastica Monastery, stopped by to chat with Sister Devota. One of the oldest Community members found something in common with one of the potentially newest members—French was the first language for both of them.Thank you, Sister Devota, for sharing your life and delightful humor with us!
“Listen carefully, my child, to your master's precepts, and incline the ear of your heart. Receive willingly and carry out effectively your loving father's advice, that by the labor of obedience you may return to Him from whom you had departed by the sloth of disobedience.”
