Shine, Jesus, Shine!

Shine, Jesus, Shine!

As we settle into the long and cold days of winter it can be easy to forget the radiance and brilliance of the Christmas lights.  Although the celebration of the Bethlehem Star was just a few weeks ago we might not remember the promise of Isaiah – Arise!  Shine, for your light has come! (Isaiah 60:1)

When I drove back to St. Scholastica after visiting my family during Christmas, I found reassurance in God’s promise of light.  Even though we Northerners know that a bright sun shining and glistening sundogs in winter sky mean cold, I was warmed.  The beauty of the sight brought a song to my heart reminding to shine.

Let us never forget that we have been given the light of Christ at our Baptism and that just like the bright and shiny Christmas light we are to radiate Christ every day.  Just because the words of Isaiah don’t always match our winter skies it doesn’t mean that God has forgotten us. Indeed the light has come…Jesus is shining!

Lord, the Light of Your Love is shining,
In the midst of the darkness shining,
Jesus, Light of the World, shine upon us,
Set us free by the truth You now bring us,
Shine on me. Shine on me.

Shine, Jesus shine,
Fill this land with the Father’s glory.
Blaze, Spirit blaze,
Set our hearts on fire
