Shalom Spiritual Directors’ Retreat at the Monastery, May 2-4, 2014

As participants gathered for the opening retreat prayer service, we heard the scripture from Luke 24, about the disciple’s journey to Emmaus. They were saddened and disappointed as Jesus had not met their hopes, dreams, and expectations. Then he joined them on the journey and they later reflected “Were not our hearts gradually catching fire within us as He spoke to us on the road to Emmaus” (Luke 24). That was the Easter scripture they could reflect upon as they prayed, read, contemplated, and met with their mentors during this silent directed retreat. Each also brought their journal and other reading material.

During the closing service, each shared how they had experienced God’s presence, insights, and gifts during this retreat time. The closing session is always a special time of grace for everyone. We all look forward to seeing each other in September when we begin the second year of the program.
