Serra Club Thanks Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery

Sunday, April 14, 2013 the Serra Club of the Diocese of Duluth hosted a pie and ice-cream social for the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery.  Over twenty Serrans and their spouses joined the Sisters in Rockhurst Dining Room for coffee and conversation—and of course pie and ice-cream.

Dr. Dennis Soukup, President of the Duluth Club, shared with the Sisters that Serra is a Catholic organization of laypersons concerned with vocations to the priesthood and the religious life.  He thanked the Sisters for faithfully living out their vocation and acknowledged the years of dedicated service that the Sisters have offered throughout the diocese of Duluth.  On behalf of all the Duluth Benedictines, Sister Lois Eckes, Prioress, thanked the Serrans for the wonderful pie and ice-cream social.  To conclude the afternoon the entire community of Sisters sang a song of thanks and blessing for the Serrans and Father John Petrich, Chaplain of the Serra Club, offered a prayer of blessing.

“Our humanity comes to its fullest bloom in giving. We become beautiful people when we give whatever we can give: a smile, a handshake, a kiss, an embrace, a word of love, a present, a part of our life...all of our life.”
–Henri Nouwen
