Adults have been re-enchanted by a favorite activity of their youth: coloring books. Those of us who have tried adult coloring find that it awakens our creativity, calms our chattering minds, and reduces the stress we experience in everyday life. Many consider it a contemplative practice, and author Sybil MacBeth developed the “Praying in Color” book to promote this practice.
Participants at an upcoming retreat at our monastery have the opportunity to experience this active, playful, serious, visual and contemplative practice. Beth Pellin Kaiser, Coordinator of Liturgy/Music at our College, especially invites people who have a short attention-span, who struggle with word-weary prayer, or who simply want to find a way to talk to God without words to attend.
