On Saturday, August 8, about 25 women and men attended a presentation, Did You Hear the Good News?, about four women who were recently recognized as Doctors of the Church:
St. Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th century-Benedictine founder, writer, mystic and artist;
St. Catherine of Sienna, a 14th century Dominican mystic and writer who helped bring peace to a Church in schism;
St. Teresa of Avila, a 16th century Carmelite mystic, writer and reformer;
and St. Therese of Lisieux, a 19th century Carmelite mystic and writer.
Under the direction of Sister Sarah O’Malley, OSB, we learned about the times in which they lived. In their lives mirrored Christ and witnessed to the Gospel. Each had a strong, creative, living faith that enabled her to become a spiritual pioneer in her time and an example to emulate for all ages.
