Sister Jeanne Ann and friend
They are there to share joys, sorrows, fun times, and serious times. They comfort and they can challenge. They accept the other for who the other is. They pray for each other. In the book of Sirach (Ecclesiasticus), chapter 6 describes true friendship: “A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; those who find one, find a treasure. A faithful friend is beyond price, no sum can balance their worth. A faithful friend is a life-saving remedy…” Jesus knew the value of friends in his life, although they, like us, didn’t always measure up! There were his disciples, especially Peter, James, and John. His good friends in Bethany were Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. He had many faithful women who were his followers, his friends. Even though Mary was his mother, she had to be his best earthly friend. I am so blessed with friends in Community, outside Community, and within my family. They are awesome; they are treasures!
