Vincent Van Gough was not appreciated in his own time. People did not understand what he was doing with color and texture. They did not have eyes to see the wonder and innovation of his work.
In the Gospels, too, there were times when the apostles lacked the eyes to see. They often missed seeing the truth behind Jesus’ actions, his miracles, and his words. They had eyes, Jesus told them, but they did not see (Mark 8:18).
This happens to us, too. Our eyes do not really see. We have “vision problems.” We do not see the bigger picture. We may be too focused on ourselves, our preconceived notions, our troubles, and our agendas that we miss the real work of God in the world.
Do you have eyes to see….
– Jesus in the people around you?
– how God takes care of you?
– the beauty of creation?
– God’s goodness in the midst of strife?
– where and how can you make a difference?
Come, Holy Spirit give me eyes to see!
