Dwell in the Lord’s House

Quite often at a funeral or wake service Psalm 27 is recited or sung. Specifically, the phrase “one thing I ask of the Lord; this I seek: to dwell in the Lord’s house all the days of my life” (Psalm 27:4) is sung. What a beautiful thought! For ever and ever, to live in the house of the Lord! But, we don’t have to wait until our funeral to start dwelling in the Lord’s house.

We dwell in the Lord’s House each time we enter into personal prayer.
We dwell in the Lord’s House each time we kneel before the tabernacle.
We dwell in the Lord’s House each time we join the community in worship.
We dwell in the Lord’s House each time we forgive someone who has hurt us.
We dwell in the Lord’s House each time we respond with love to someone in need.

“Listen carefully, my child, to your master's precepts, and incline the ear of your heart. Receive willingly and carry out effectively your loving father's advice, that by the labor of obedience you may return to Him from whom you had departed by the sloth of disobedience.”
–St. Benedict of Nursia, The Rule of Saint Benedict
