Fans of the Saints (The College of St. Scholastica’s football team) and more precisely fans of one of the coaches who recently caught the eye of newspapers and television, do we have a nice treat for you!
The coach is Sister Lisa Maurer. She is the “Nun Coach” whose unusual combination of gender, football expertise, and professed Benedictine values has been one of the more engaging news stories over the last year.
Her story is inspiring and her values are teachable as told in the article “A Twist of Faith” published in the fall issue of the NCAA magazine, Champion. The article discusses the combination of faith, life values, and love of football that helped mold her life, first taking her to the Benedictine Community of Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery in Duluth, Minnesota, and then to coaching football – specifically, the Saints, right next door at The College of St. Scholastica.
Rachel Stark is the author and Arnell Raynon is the photographer. We invite you read their beautifully presented piece online at the NCAA’s Champion magazine website. Click here: A TWIST OF FAITH.
