On Tuesday, December 7, 2010, the Monastery and The College of St. Scholastica celebrated their annual Advent Vespers service with participation of the sisters, faculty, students and friends.
This year’s theme was Becoming a Community of Hope. The darkness of the chapel was broken by the light of the candle bearers processing in toward the altar. Readings from Scripture and other sources highlighted the theme.
The Sisters’ Schola under the direction of Regina Roemhildt, and the College Men and Women’s Choirs under the direction of Bret Amendson, as well as the assembly, helped raise the sense of Advent hope, joy, community, and praise.
Following the service each participant took a lighted candle and went outdoors in preparation for the Lighting a Tradition ceremony which included a prayer, message from President Larry Goodwin, lighting the lights on the evergreen trees, cookies and cider. It was indeed an evening of hope, community, and joy!
