15-13-10

15-13-10. You might think that these numbers are a safe combination or the code to unlock a keypad, but they are not. They are the number of years that I have been at St. Scholastica Monastery including the number of years professed and the number of years since my Perpetual Profession.

I entered St. Scholastica Monastery as a Postulant on September 1, 2007. This fall will mark fifteen years since I have been at the Monastery. Come August 22, I will have been a professed Sister for thirteen years. This past feast of St. Benedict, July 11, marked ten years since my Perpetual Profession.

It is good to keep track of anniversary dates, to honor milestones, and to remember pivotal moments in our lives. Time passes quickly and we are gone, says the Psalmist (Psalms 90:10). Being attentive and marking the passage of time is important. If we don’t remember, we will lose some of those memories and milestones from our past.

Our personal memories provide important details of who we are and who we would like to be. When we celebrate anniversaries, we recall the important events that took place in our lives. In some way, we are given the opportunity to set aside all the challenges we are undergoing currently, and to reflect on our blessings. Recalling past events enables us to see God’s Will in our lives which rejuvenates our soul and inspires us to continue seeking who and how God dreams us to be!

“Our humanity comes to its fullest bloom in giving. We become beautiful people when we give whatever we can give: a smile, a handshake, a kiss, an embrace, a word of love, a present, a part of our life...all of our life.”
–Henri Nouwen
