Somebody to Love

“Can anybody find me somebody to love?”  I think this is what Mary Magdalene was worried about when she went to the tomb looking for Jesus. She was looking for somebody to love.

We know from Scripture that Mary Magdalene had a very special relationship with Jesus. Tradition enhances that and offers us many ways to consider just how special their relationship was. Jesus saved Mary Magdalene from demons. She was a close follower and seemed to be part of his inner circle. Jesus had transformed her life, given her something to believe in and showed her a new way to be. Now he was dead and worse yet, she had nowhere to go to honor his body and feel close to him. She was looking for somebody to love.

We, too, need somebody to love. Yes, God has given us family and friends. Maybe you have a spouse and children, plenty of people to love. Maybe you have a soul friend or a dear mentor, people with whom you share a special relationship. Yet, part of you cries out, “Can anybody find me somebody to love?”.

That somebody your heart and soul longs for is Jesus, your God and Savior. The one who has loved you from before time.  The one who loves you unconditionally. The one who will love you for all eternity. Jesus is your somebody to love!
