Stop Comparing!

The purple flowers are no more splendid than the golden. One person is no more made in the image and likeness of God than another. So, why do we do it? Why do we compare ourselves to others? Stop comparing! Theodore Roosevelt has been quoted to have said, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” So, stop comparing!

God is generous and has wonderful plans for each of us. When we wallow in comparing ourselves to others we can become deflated and discouraged. When we are focused on what others have, when we judge others actions, responsibilities, and duties we may miss out on our own unique mission in life. Stop comparing!

As followers of Jesus, we are called to support, encourage, love and be inspired by each other. We each are given unique gifts and talents for lifting up the Body of Christ. Stop comparing!

Let us pray for the humility to be honest with ourselves and to be happy for others, without comparison. May we be grateful for the life and mission God has set before us, and pray to find God’s peace and joy in living authentically.

“Our humanity comes to its fullest bloom in giving. We become beautiful people when we give whatever we can give: a smile, a handshake, a kiss, an embrace, a word of love, a present, a part of our life...all of our life.”
–Henri Nouwen
