“The word of God is living and effective.” – Hebrews 4:12
Why do you read the Bible? To learn about God? To find help for living your life? To gain strength? Have you ever considered reading the Bible to let the words read you?
When you read the Bible to let the words read you, you are experiencing the word of God as “living and effective.” The words in Scripture can expose your thoughts and motives, your desires and loves. The words will stir in you, open your thoughts and feelings and shed light on your opinions and judgments. As something “living and effective” the words are fresh each time you read them – each time you let them read you – and they will speak to you in a timely and fitting manner.
It is not scary to allow the words of the Bible to read you. Trust that God loves and wants the best for you. Allowing the Holy Spirit, through the words of Scripture, to make an impact on you should bring joy to your heart as you grow in likeness to Christ. It should make you want to experience God more and more!
