It doesn’t take much to have an experience of God. Our almighty, immortal, and omniscient God can come to us in any way and in any place. We can experience the majesty of God in the Grand Canyon or in a field of flowers. God can make Himself known in a miraculous healing or in a mundane activity. The prophet Elijah experienced God not in the wind or an earthquake or even in a fire. Elijah knew God was present when he heard a “tiny whispering sound” (1 Kings 19:11-12). God’s presence is everywhere, and it doesn’t take much for Him to make His presence known.
God made a special appearance to Elijah just as surely as He is making His presence known to you. God wants to speak personally to you. It doesn’t take much for Him to make His presence known. All you have to do is listen for Him when you read Scripture or go to Mass. Look for Him when you take a walk. Watch for Him in your day-to-day activities. He might share a word of conviction or compassion or encouragement through another person. He might even ask you a question. So be on the lookout for God…and remember it doesn’t take much for Him to make His presence known.
