A Poem by Sister Jayne Erickson
My eyes scarcely see
Minuscule snowflakes
Darting here and there
Hiding in the gray expanse
As if they were
People of color
Afraid to come out
In the light of day
Or even in the darkness
Struggling to survive
Soft, gentle snowflakes
Like kind, generous people
Bringing beauty into the world
Blanketing the stone cold
Surface of frozen hearts
There is a longing in me
To walk side by side
As a disciple with Jesus
On the Emmaus road
To begin to understand
The journey past and present
Of those who carry the burden
Yet reflect Christ Light
On the road beyond Calvary
My heart burns within me
