This past Sunday we celebrated World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life. A special day when we ask God to bless and support those who have dedicated their lives to serving God through the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. We also ask God to call more people to consecrated life.
A vocation to consecrated life, like all vocations, is a call from God. A vocation to consecrated life is a particular call to a state of life to follow Jesus Christ in a more exacting way. It is “a stable form of living by which the faithful, following Christ more closely under the action of the Holy Spirit, are totally dedicated to God who is loved most of all, so that, having been dedicated by a new and special title to his honor, to the building up of the Church, and to the salvation of the world, they strive for the perfection of charity in the service of the kingdom of God and, having been made an outstanding sign in the Church, foretell the heavenly glory” (Code of Canon Law – Canon 537).
Let us pray…
For those consecrated to God by the vows of chastity, poverty and obedience that they may have the grace to persevere in their commitment to the Lord and reveal the love of Christ to those they encounter and continue to enrich our world by their dedicated lives.
We pray for all those who are discerning their vocation in life, particularly those whom the Lord is calling to consecrated life. May they be given the wisdom to hear God’s call and the courage to respond generously.
Through the prayers of all the faithful, may there be a renewal of interest in vocations to the consecrated life and may all families encourage their sons and daughters to discern God’s call.
