Fourth Sunday of Advent

As we await the coming into our hearts of the Savior, let us meditate on the words of Martin Luther, who wrote:

“Do not treat the gospel only as history, for that is only transient; neither regard it only as an example, for it is of no value without faith. Rather, make this birth your own and let Christ be born in you. Of what benefit would it be to me if Christ had been born a thousand times, and it would daily be sung into my ears in a most lovely manner, if I were never to hear that he was born for me and was to be my very own?”

“Our humanity comes to its fullest bloom in giving. We become beautiful people when we give whatever we can give: a smile, a handshake, a kiss, an embrace, a word of love, a present, a part of our life...all of our life.”
–Henri Nouwen
