Earth Day and Benedictine Stewardship

Earth Day is celebrated every April and reminds us to be aware and appreciative of our earth’s natural environment and what we can do to protect Mother Earth.  This day reminds me of stewardship which has been a Benedictine value for over 1500 years. . . .

As we enter the gathering place of our Chapel, a colorful rainbow is sighted with our Lenten theme scripted upon it: I have loved you with an everlasting love. Our God is faithful to us through all of life – the good times, as well as the stormy times. In the reading for the first Sunday of Lent . . .

Each day there are a variety of options before us such as:   Should I keep this sweater or donate it to Goodwill?  Should I throw these Christmas cards away or keep them?  Should I get up and pray or stay in bed awhile longer?  Should I speak to someone who has offended me or avoid them?  So many choices . . .
